Marine Terminal Management and Self Assessment (MTMSA)

The second phase of the MTIS has been released, and it will change how the industry outlines and self-regulates its marine terminal management.  The Marine Terminal Management and Self Assessment (MTMSA) is a document that has replaced the Marine Terminal Baseline Criteria publication that is used currently by marine terminal operators, and it is designed in a similar format to the Tanker Management and Self Assessment guide that is used by over 90% of tanker operators.

The MTMSA initiative includes a “best-practice guide” for terminal operators to assess and improve their management systems, a self-assessment process to evaluate their current systems, a database to share the information with customers or colleagues, and a verification process done through external or internal audit.  This initiative provides a framework for marine terminal management that will raise standards across the industry, and the end result will be more streamlined operations, fewer accidents, and higher safety standards.

To support this initiative, Callooh Maritime offers two independent services:  External Auditing Services and MTMSA Compliance Consulting.

The External Auditing Services offer verification of the MTMSA standards, including safety ratings, security evaluations, and environmental policy adherence checks.  These auditing services evaluate Marine Terminal Management systems in comparison to the key performance indicators outlined in the MTMSA, and these audits are conducted by a senior marine expert.  A benefit of using Callooh Maritime’s External Auditing Service is that since Callooh offers MTMSA Compliance Consulting, we are experts in the requirements outlined by the MTMSA and can verify a marine terminal management’s compliance to these standards.
